Well, I did it…

Posted in Cool Writerly News by Rachel on the June 12th, 2008

Got through the first two chapters finally of the book I am sending in from the Pitch Slam Session, cleaning up slang from 20 years ago, cutting out irrelevant story line, cleaning out passive verbs, getting feed back from friends, etc. I could have gone through it all one more time, but it’s been 2 solid weeks since the Pitch Slam Session and I may be wrong, but I had a gut feeling that if I waited any longer the opportunity would be lost. I couldn’t let that happen. Maybe interest would have waned, been forgotten, or passed on in favor of someone else quicker on the uptake. It’s June. Who knows when people in that office go on vacation, quit for a better job, or (because everyone else is), get laid off.
Now, I need to work for pay. Figure out how to pay rent, phone bill, DSL, webpage fee, cat food, groceries, etc, etc, etc…

My sister and I had a long talk the other night. One of the things she reminded me of is the need to follow through on your dreams, not just because they’re your dreams, but because they are promises to yourself. Now, you may or may not have a cheerleading section in your life to help you with your dream. Even if you do, it’s not their dream, it’s your dream. You are in charge of it. That cheerleading section might help you push for a goal without realizing the cost to you, only knowing it’s a goal you want to reach.  They might not be able to be there or want to be there after they’ve pushed you. They feel they’ve done their job and moved on to something else. Or maybe they are there and are micromanaging the thing for you.  Whatever it is, and it’s different for everyone, you have to remember it’s your dream. You are in charge of it. No one else. You get to say what happens with it. No one else.

Now, I have been up all night, despite Pye’s best intentions to get me to go to sleep and I have an appt with a doctor about that venomous cat bite in an hour or two. I need to down some coffee so I don’t fall asleep in the exam room.

Fare you well, fair citizens of earth….

Fabulous job on getting through those chapters! :)

And yes! about dreams. They are indeed OUR dreams to nurture and realise… I don’t have many cheerleaders in my life (offline, I mean), but it’s so important to remember that I do what I do for ME and nobody else.

Exactly. You are your own best cheerleader. You’re a really good cheerleader for others, but you know what I mean.

I’m so excited for you. Cheerleaders are a good thing, I have mine on speed dial. ^_^
